Who Framed Roger Rabbit? was released in the theater in 1988. It is based in 1947, in Toontown, a place where ‘toons and humans exist side-by-side. Eddie Valiant, played by Bob Hoskins, is a toon-hating P.I. hired by Roger Rabbit to follow his “cheating” wife Jessica. Things quickly go south from there for the ‘toon star, Roger. It seems he’s been framed for the murder of a Hollywood big wig.
Watching this movie is a like a blast from the past. It is chock full of classic cartoon characters from Disney, Warner Bros. and more, who make cameo appearances throughout. This movie is significant in movie making history because of groundbreaking interactions between live and animated characters.
One thing that I found curious about this movie, is that while there is a significant number of Hollywood “names” that had roles in this movie, the voice of Roger Rabbit is performed by a man who has an extensive list of voice performances but is not the big name that this caliber of movie would probably call for today.
