Slap Shot   (1977 - DVD)
Director: George Roy Hill
Starring: Paul Newman, Michael Ontkean, Lindsay Crouse, Jennifer Warren, Jerry Houser, Strother Martin

This irreverent and hilarious look into the world of professional sports has Paul Newman as the coach of the Chiefs, a struggling minor-league hockey team. To build up attendance at their games, management sings up the Hanson Brothers, three hard-charging players whose job is to demolish the opposition. Slap Shot's outrageous comedy, hard-hitting action, memorable lines and unforgettable characters have made this classic one of the all-time best sports movies ever!

Employee Pick from June 2012: "Favorite Sports Movie"
  Reviewer: Krystal    Score:    Posted: 5/30/2012

When I heard this month's employee pick was about sports, about 10 different titles instantly popped into my head. I'm actually really surprised I didn't pick one about football, but Paul Newman and hockey paired together work just as well for me. Slap Shot is about a struggling minor league hockey team that resorts to dirty fighting in order to win games. Hockey is a pretty violent game on its own, but once you throw three up-and-coming brothers into the mix, it becomes more of a boxing rink than a hockey rink.

The ridiculousness of the amount of fighting alone will keep you entertained, along with the Hanson brothers who only fit in with the aging team because of their skills on the ice. Otherwise they are just three goofy brothers messing around and having a clueless time living life.

Slap Shot is a great movie if you're looking for a sports movie that doesn't have all the seriousness and stressful scenes that most do.
